In 1980, Cooper led the construction of a twin cinema on Watts Street. Finally, in 1989, when the Watts Street cinema was demolished by developers, Film Forum’s current Houston Street cinema was built. Today, Film Forum is a 3-screen cinema open 365 days a year, with 250,000 annual admissions, 489 seats, 59 employees, 4500 members and a $4.1 million operating budget.

JDIFF continues its commitment to celebrating film as an art form by presenting over 120 films from the four corners of the globe to the Irish Audience. The festival is a citywide event that takes place in all of the Dublin City Centre Cinemas including Cineworld, The Savoy, Screen and the Irish Film Institute as well as The Lighthouse Cinema in Smithfield and Movies@Dundrum. The majority of films shown at the film festival are Irish premieres, and for some of the films shown, the festival represents the only public screening that will take place in Ireland.

The courses are shorter and cheaper courses than many other film programs, which provide a quick and affordable way for aspiring filmmakers to get a head-start on their career in these difficult economical times. It is said that the graduates even get to use the film equipment for free after they finish and have payment plans as well. “Take our 2-week course,” says Denny Morales, CEO, “which is $599, and compare it to other film schools with the same course; they are charging more than twice that.”

Not only is LVSF here to help aspiring filmmakers through the tough economy, they also are the only school in the city that caters to just film. The courses have you make a film, from start to finish, in the way that it is done in the industry. Their program guarantees students do real casting calls and get real film permits. “We have our students really get in the mix and get down and dirty,” says Denny, “basically do the job that you would do in the real world.”
